Hospital Cases After Baby Car's Dive

LEAP INTO CANAL WHEN LIGHTS FAILED

CHARGING up the bank of a canal a short distance from the gates of the McCaughey Memorial High School on Sunday evening, a 'baby' car tookoff, and landed with a splash in a considerable quantity of water which still remains in the channel after the watering season. In addition to a soaking the three occupants received injuries which placed them in hospital. The tiny vehicle was driven by Leeton identity Mr. Tom Cameron, who stated that he missed the road after the headlights on the car had failed. Mr. Cameron and his two passengers were driving towards Yanco from the direction of the river and had reached the scene where the accident occurred soon after 6.30 p.m.

SEEN BY SCHOOLBOYS
When the car left the road and leapt into the canal its radiator struck the far bank with some force, so that it is believed that the injuries sustained by the occupants were caused as it came to a sudden halt. Some pupils of the McCaughey Memorial High School were nearby and saw the accident in the gathering dusk. They went to Mr. J. Briggs' property nearby, and the latter 'phoned the Leeton Ambulance. Later, however, the party were brought to Leeton by car. Mr. T. Cameron received lacerations to the face, and it was found yesterday that ribs had been broken. His brother, Mr. Reuben, Cameron, was more seriously injured and both were admitted to the District Hospital. The other passenger, Ethel Smith, was also taken into the institution for treatment.
